I think blackjack represents the essence of life in the best possible manner -
1. Luck and skill - Both matter but luck matters more than skill. A moron with great luck will win big and a pro with bad luck will lose (dont let 21 tell you otherwise)
2. Betting - As with in life, in blackjack you have good luck and you have bad luck. The key to being succesful is betting big in times (hands) of good luck and vice versa. Easier said than done!
3. Skill - There is an optimal, by-the-book strategy that reduces house odds to the lowest possible and that's the way to go. The safe path is optimal.
4. Outliers - Some people take wild risks. A tiny fraction of those win big. But we only hear about the ones who make it big (survivorship) leading us to believe that playing by-the-book is sub-optimal. Is it? I don't know.
5. Purpose - Both are for entertainment; please remember to live your life happily!
6. Odds [I will confess this has something to do with my flatmate] - Even in the best case, you have bad odds, i.e. in the long run, you are well and truly dead (and broke).. :-P
There might be more, but this is all I can think of off the cuff.. :-)
Hmmmmmmmm :)
